Saranac Lake is a nature lover’s paradise with an abundance of hiking, canoeing, kayaking and cycling. Walk, run, or bike along the Adirondack Rail Trail, or bring your clubs for a round of golf at Saranac Lake Golf Club and Saranac Inn Golf Club. In the winter, enjoy snowmobiling, as well as downhill skiing at Mount Pisagh and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at Dewey Mountain Recreation Center, both of which offer mountain biking in the off-season.

Wander along the Riverwalk brick path that winds through town and beside the Saranac River, and take a ride on the Adirondack Carousel. Learn about the village’s history as a tuberculosis cure center at the Saranac Laboratory Museum, and check out the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, featuring a parade in the middle of winter and an ice palace made of ice blocks cut from the lake.

Visit the many downtown art and photo galleries, or see a show at the Pendragon theatre, the only year-round professional repertory in the Adirondacks. For locally sourced produce, homemade baked goods, handmade crafts, and more, check out the Saranac Lake High Peaks Farmers Market, held every Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00pm, starting in mid-May and continuing through mid-October, and enjoy a wide variety of live music at the Waterhole music lounge, open all year long.

Downtown Saranac Lake features several long-standing restaurants, including The Belvedere and Red Fox, Bitters & Bones pub, the Blue Line Brewery, and local cafes, like Blue Moon Cafe and Origin Coffee Co. You’ll also find a number of locally-owned shops selling everything from books and board games to paintings and pottery, and a handful of canoe and trail outfitters to help you gear up for any adventure.
